La conférence de presse tenue par Maitre Gims ce 14 septembre 2017 à Kinshasa a été fleuve. Répondant à une question d’un journaliste congolais sur sa nationalité, le propriétaire du label « Monstre Marin » a évoqué tout d’abord son indifférence face à la politique.
« Les artistes musiciens véhiculent la joie de vivre, des émotions, des messages d’amour. Alors dans la politique, il faut prendre une position. De ce moment-là, il y aura une partie contre.
Le gouvernement français m’a approché à plusieurs reprises pour une prise de position. Mais, nous connaissons, tous, la situation des artistes musiciens qui se sont affichés dans la politique », regrette Maitre Gims avant de confirmer sa nationalité congolaise.
« En acceptant de garder ta nationalité, le Congo est dans toi »
« Qu’est ce que la nationalité française va m’apporter de plus ? » se pose t-il la question. Je suis français par l’esprit, confirme t-il, j’étais contacté pour acquérir la nationalité française, mais pour moi ce n’est pas urgent. Je suis fier d’appartenir à ce grand pays. Sans nationalité française, j’ai pu séduire les français. Je crois que la nationalité française ne va rien changer. J’ai un passeport congolais, et j’en suis fier », a-t-il avoué. Et à Jo K Kabengele, célèbre chroniqueur congolais, de lui rétorquer, « en acceptant de garder ta nationalité, le Congo est dans toi ».
Parlant de ses projets, Maitre Gims a lancé depuis peu sa Fondation « Mokili » pour palier aux problèmes d’accès à l’eau potable en Afrique. Soutenue par les artistes, sportifs et acteurs de cinéma, la Fondation « Mokili » vient répondre à une épineuse cause de mortalité infantile en Afrique. « Le pays a besoin des sages, des enseignants, des savants… la meilleure façon de rêver d’un grand Congo stable est d’investir dans les enfants. En tout cas, j’espère qu’un jour, le Congo va subsister par lui-même » a révélé Maitre Gims avant d’ajouter qu’il sort son prochain album « Ceinture noire » en début de l’année 2018.
Son avis sur la musique congolaise est simple. Elle nourrit actuellement toutes les musiques du monde. Le succès de sa chanson « saper comme jamais » sortie meilleur tube de l’année 2016 en est une preuve.
